Reclaiming the Pudendal Nerve: From Shame to Sacred Portal

By Dr. Bella, Agape Healing Arts

There’s a quiet thread that runs through the body—a nerve, deep and unseen, that has long held the tension between shame and power.

It’s called the pudendal nerve.

In Latin, pudenda means “parts to be ashamed of.” This is where the name comes from—a time when anatomy books and patriarchal systems mirrored a culture that viewed the female body as something to hide, silence, or control. The pudendal nerve, then, was not just a biological term—it was a reflection of how society saw the womb, the yoni, and the sacred seat of feminine life.

But we are no longer living under that veil.

We are remembering. Reclaiming. Renaming.

At Agape Healing Arts, we choose to call it the Portal Nerve.

Because that’s what it is.

This powerful nerve innervates the yoni, vulva, perineum, rectum, and pelvic floor—the very structures that bring life into the world, release what no longer serves, and awaken pleasure, vitality, and rooted power. It is the channel through which sensation flows, where body and spirit meet, where ecstasy, healing, and creation dwell.

The Portal Nerve is a sacred messenger.

It carries the wisdom of the womb to the brain and back again. It responds to trauma and tenderness. It pulses with the memory of birth and the whisper of ancestral rhythms. It is primal, sensual, intelligent—and it is time we call it by a name that honors its truth.

When we name something sacred, we begin to heal it.

So I invite you, dear sister, to pause and place your hands over your womb space. Breathe deeply. Sense the radiant thread of aliveness that connects you to this nerve—not as something to be ashamed of, but as something divine. Something sovereign. Something sacred.

Let us teach our daughters the truth.

Let us speak this name into our healing sessions, our rituals, and our medicine.

Let us honor the Portal Nerve as the channel of life, pleasure, and transformation that it truly is.

Because you are not something to be ashamed of.

You are a portal of power, and your body knows the way home.
