Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a modality of massage that encourages the lymphatic system and the body's natural removal of lymph fluid from the tissues.

 

The lymphatic system, which is in charge of eliminating waste products, toxins, and extra fluid from bodily tissues, is an essential component of the immune system. The lymphatic system uses muscular action and physical manipulation to transfer lymph fluid throughout the body, as opposed to the circulatory system, which uses the heart to pump blood.
