Holistic Pelvic Care™
By: Dr. Bella
Are you are seeking a more integrated approach to connection between your physical body and a deeper wisdom to heal and nurture yourself? If you answered YES to this question then you would most definitely benefit from Holistic Pelvic Care. Holistic Pelvic Care™ (HPC) is a technique designed to restore physical, emotional, and energetic imbalances that are rooted in the female pelvis. This modality addresses a woman as a whole; Body, Mind and Spirit.
With all of the advances in or Modern Western Medicine, Women’s Health still only consists of an annual pap and breast exam. Since women are not advised to give their pelvic bowl regular attention, internal awareness is often lacking. Tapping into feminine wisdom, receptivity, and intimately connecting with our root vitality that is located in the pelvic bowl (vagina, ovaries, and uterus) allows us to reclaim our space in our bodies and in our world. By restoring balance in the pelvic bowl, we as women can establish a more abundant creative flow in the body and then into all areas of our lives. HPC is a beautiful compliment to Woman's Health and Preventative Medicine.
HPC was developed by Tami Kent, a physical therapist and author in Portland, Oregon. After working for two decades in Women's Physical Therapy as her specialty, she began to notice and map out the energetics of the pelvic bowl and the correlating imbalances and diseases that woman suffer in this area of their bodies when stagnation occurs and is not addressed properly. By using gentle internal vaginal massage techniques combined with simple breath work, this innovative therapy has proven effective in enriching and encompassing not only the physical but also the emotional and energetic aspects of womanhood.
Just as other parts of our bodies hold tension and pain, so too often do we as women suffer with pelvic floor tension and stress. We undergo many life changes in our pelvic bowl such as our monthly hormonal and menstrual cycles, child-birthing, postpartum and menopause, which all can take a toll on the health and balance of our pelvic bowl. HPC is beneficial for any type of pain or trauma to the pelvic region, PMS, menstrual irregularities, dysmennorrhea, fibroids, fertility issues, cesarean recovery, painful intercourse, incontinence, vaginitis, ovarian cysts, low libido, urinary incontinence and sexual trauma. It is especially important in postpartum care to restore physical and emotional balance to the pelvic bowl.
A woman's root is her center of creation, power and where she births all of her creative ideas from. Stagnation in the pelvic bowl not only leads to physical discomfort and disease but also energetic and creative lack of flow and fulfillment. Her Spirit becomes stifled and she has a lack of energy to create her dreams into reality. By clearing the stagnation in our pelvic bowl we free up our creative center so we can live the life we envision for ourselves! Energetic tensions and blocks in our root can prevent the full expression of who we are as Spirit. When we take the time to reconnect our breath and awareness to our creative center and heal in a gentle holistic way we often times regain a confidence and wisdom that resides in this region of our bodies.
Although every woman is different, a typical session begins with a detailed intake about current issues you wish to address and your medical history. WIth my back round as a midwife and acupuncture physician, I will ask you specific questions related to your constitution and do an assessment of your pulse and tongue as part of the intake process. The hands-on portion takes place on a massage table with some light acupuncture, detailed physical pelvic work and guided visualizations.
The number of treatments will vary depending on your response to the first session and how chronic your condition is. It is not uncommon for women to remember or become aware of deep emotions regarding various aspects of their lives. Since this work is designed to restore physical and energetic imbalances in combination with the emotional, it may be necessary for a referral to a trained counselor. If this is the case, you will be referred to a trusted specialist. Additionally, herbal and nutritional formulas and/or lifestyle suggestions may be prescribed to aid your healing process.
